Right now, Jacob Avery is somewhere between home and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, white water rafting with his brothers and other boy scouts. So he doesn't yet know that we received a welcome email from the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Lima, Peru, where he is scheduled to report on July 3.
The email is very informative, explaining what Jake should do to prepare for his arrival at the MTC as far as studying, reading, and receiving required immunizations. It also details what he should bring with him, and what he can expect while at the MTC.
The best way for Jake to send and receive letters is through "pouch mail" because the Peruvian postal service, Serpost, is "inconvenient and unreliable." No packages should be sent to the Peru MTC. Once a week, he will have the ability to email with family and friends.
Jake will be assigned a companion who is a "native Spanish speaking missionary, with the intent to increase his Spanish speaking ability," and he will be in the Peru MTC for six weeks. If his Peruvian visa is not issued by his report date of July 3, he will begin training at the MTC in Provo, Utah, until he receives his visa, then he will finish his training in Peru.
